Our aim is to use energy, as well as other utilities, as efficiently as possible. Energy efficiency plays a key role particularly in our production and logistics.
We always take energy efficiency into account when overhauling and replacing equipment and making new investments. We are continuously seeking new ways to improve energy efficiency by modifying our operating methods.
Commitment to energy efficiency
We have made a commitment to the efficiency program for Finland’s energy-intensive industries. During the agreement period 2017–2025, we aim to save 500 GWh from the 2014 level.
One example on our actions is a long-term agreement on wind power with Fortum. The total capacity of the agreement is more than 60 MW, and the energy produced will correspond to around 20% of the electricity consumption at the Neste Porvoo and Naantali sites. The wind power deliveries are expected to begin in early 2021. The shift to wind power will reduce the indirect greenhouse gas emissions of electricity purchases at Neste’s production sites annually by approximately 40 kilotons.
In 2019, our energy saving measures were 16 GWh.
We are also pursuing energy savings in our service station network
Our service station networks in Finland and in the Baltic countries have their own energy efficiency targets. The program covering the stations in Finland aims to reduce the electricity consumption of station forecourts by 25% by 2020 compared to the level of 2007.
We are seeking savings by, among other measures, by utilizing new lighting technology.
The aim of the energy efficiency program for the Baltic countries service stations is to reduce electricity consumption by 20% (6,800 MWh) compared to the level of 2010 by 2020.
Also, the tanker truck fueling stations and loads the trucks carry are designed to be as efficient as possible in terms of fuel consumption.
