Our aim is to use energy, as well as other utilities, as efficiently as possible. Energy efficiency plays a key role particularly in our production and logistics.
We always take energy efficiency into account when overhauling and replacing equipment and making new investments. We are continuously seeking new ways to improve energy efficiency by modifying our operating methods.
Renewed commitment to energy efficiency
In 2016, we exceeded our energy savings target of 660 GWh for 2009–2016 by reaching the level of 855 GWh savings compared to 2008 energy usage level at our refineries in Porvoo and Naantali as well as our the terminals in Finland.
We had committed ourselves to this target as part of an energy efficiency program for Finland’s energy-intensive industries. The program aims to combat climate change in accordance with Finland's national climate and energy strategy.
We have continued our commitment to the energy efficiency programs. During a new agreement period 2017–2025 we aim at saving 500 GWh from the 2014 level. The new energy efficiency savings target is an ambitious one, requiring new investments. During 2017, the energy intensity our oil products production improved by 2% from 2016.
We are also pursuing energy savings in our service station network
Our service station networks in Finland, the Baltic countries, and Russia have their own energy efficiency targets. The program covering the stations in Finland aims to reduce the electricity consumption of station forecourts by 25% by 2020 compared to the level of 2007. We are seeking savings by, among other measures, are pursued by utilizing new lighting technology.
The aim of the energy efficiency program for the Baltic countries and Russian service stations is to reduce electricity consumption by 20% (6,800 MWh) compared to the level of 2010 by 2020.
Also, the tanker truck fueling stations and loads the trucks carry are designed to be as efficient as possible in terms of fuel consumption.
