Climate change insists companies to be faster and bolder
Peter Diamandis, co-founder at the Singularity University, has stated that the world is not just changing faster than ever before, it is accelerating. At first that sounds frightening. But the more you think about it, the more relieving it sounds. Why is that?
Because the clock is ticking. It has been estimated by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) that we may have as little as 12 years to tackle climate change.
This is a powerful and important message, one that every company in the world should understand. The world does not change unless nations, institutions, companies and people change.
A few weeks ago we announced Neste’s updated strategy which emphasizes the need for driving change faster and bolder than ever before. Neste should be able to do this, considering the fact that the majority of our profit comes from renewable products, a business area that did basically not exist 10 years ago.
How we aim to be faster and bolder?
A decade sounds like a relatively short time, and now we are challenged to act even quicker. I admit that it is a challenge.
We need to be innovative and courageous
Acting fast requires courage and forward-thinking. It means that we have to look into new innovations before they are ready for us. Before the market is mature.
With a sense of mission comes willingness to change. Tackling climate change and transition to circular economy, naturally, are some of the biggest and most complex of missions.
During the last six months living in Finland, I have noticed that people here are not afraid to tackle complex problems that are seemingly impossible to overcome. Companies too should be ready to move faster and embrace boldness. That is the only way to tackle climate change and make sure that your business is future-proof.
