Neste's proprietary NEXBTL technology enables the use of almost any waste fat or vegetable oil in the production of Neste MY renewable diesel and other renewable products. We are constantly looking into expanding our low-carbon raw material base even further.
In recent years, we have focused on increasing the use of waste and residue as raw material. They account for approximately 80% of our renewable raw material usage. This makes us the largest biofuels player with regards to circular economy.
More than 10 different renewable raw materials in our portfolio
We use approximately 10 different raw materials to produce our renewable products each year. An extensive raw material base provides flexibility, as it allows us to respond to the needs of different markets and customers.
The fuel is always of premium quality, regardless of the raw material we use in its production.
Neste only accepts sustainably produced raw materials from carefully selected producers. All our renewable raw materials significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions of the fuel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel produced from any of our renewable raw materials offers 50–90% smaller greenhouse gas emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle compared to fossil diesel. The smallest carbon footprint, a reduction of 85–90% compared to traditional diesel, is achieved when fuel produced out of wastes and residues is used.

- technical corn oil (a residue from ethanol production)

All our refineries producing renewables are technically capable of running on 100% waste and residue raw materials. We reached this capability already in 2015.
