The bio mandates of traffic fuels can be met with a variety of renewable fuels. A variety of raw materials can also be used to produce fuels, and customers are interested in these raw materials.
Neste Oil's renewable NEXBTL diesel is produced from vegetable oils, waste, and residues. Sustainability of the supply chain of all of the raw materials used and their greenhouse gas emissions are always verified in a reliable manner.
Customers are showing more and more interest in the raw materials of NEXBTL.
“Customers often wish to favor a particular raw material, provided that the legislation requires this. There are sometimes major differences in the bio mandate requirements in different countries, and meeting these requirements is always the key when someone makes the decision to buy NEXBTL,” says Supply Chain Manager Riku Salahedtin.
Flexible use of raw materials is possible because renewable NEXBTL diesel is produced in four units, and each of these units can produce products using all of the available raw materials. If necessary, one of the units can be reserved for a product produced for a particular market area.
The Neste Oil refineries have been fine-tuned for years in the use of a variety of raw materials. The first NEXBTL unit was launched in 2007 in Porvoo, Finland.
“Small raw material shipments are picked up at ports, placed into intermediate storage, or in the warehouses at the refineries. We aim at as large product shipment batches as possible. Most of our products are stored onboard ships but we also use intermediate storage areas on dry land to enable very fast deliveries.”
The logistics of the raw materials and final products are intertwined.
“When we sell a batch of renewable NEXBTL, we must know from which raw material it is made of, where the raw materials come from, and how the supply chain will influence the greenhouse gas emission level. We will always provide the necessary certificates to the customer,” Salahedtin says.
The final product is always the same, regardless of which raw materials are used.
“NEXBTL is always a safe choice for the customer. It is a clean, high-quality diesel component with excellent cold weather properties and a high cetane number. It is also directly applicable to the customer's logistics chain. No additional investments are necessary: renewable NEXBTL diesel can be mixed with fossil diesel in any proportion.”
