Living sustainability: Wellbeing at work is important for everyone

Article

A high standard of wellbeing at work is one of the most important hallmarks of a responsible employer, according to HR Development Manager Martina Breitensten-Toivonen. “Numerous little things contribute to our wellbeing at work andit’s also great to see that wellbeing at work is very much part of senior management’s strategic agenda at Neste Oil.”

Martina is part of a wellbeing at work team. “The focus of our work last year was on personal health and good leadership. This year and next, we’re aiming to extend discussion and development initiatives into the teams that make up our organization. Safety work and team meeting practices are an integral part of the way we operate today, and our aim is to bring the same focus to wellbeing at work as well.”

Neste Oil’s philosophy here is all about satisfying and fulfilling work that generates good results, she says. “Everybody is responsible for their expertise and for developing their expertise, and for staying healthy and motivated. As a company, our job is to help people do this through things such as promoting a positive atmosphere in the workplace that encourages people to give of their best. A safe workplace, well-functioning sites and processes, and good management and leadership are essential for good results.”

Involving and empowering people is the way to go here, says Martina. “This isn’t something you can make any one person responsible for, we’re all responsible.”
