Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) have again listed the world's most sustainable companies. Neste was included in the DJSI World Index for the 10th consecutive time, this year being the only one of the European oil companies included on the list. In this year's analysis, Neste ranks high especially with regard to water related issues, environmental reporting, as well as supply chain management.

The analysis is based on year 2015, during which Neste started systematically improving its performance related to social issues. Particularly, labor and human rights issues in the supply chains were in the focus.

"Like last year, we received a maximum score of 100 points for our handling of water issues and related risks. Additionally, we received 100 points for environmental reporting, an area in which we have a long history and great traditions. Our first Environmental Report was published already in 1993," says Simo Honkanen, Senior Vice President, Sustainability and Public Affairs at Neste.

"We received nearly the maximum score also for our social reporting. We are particularly pleased to receive recognition for our work on Human Capital Development, an area in which we were ranked above the industry average, as well as for developing an area of Labor Practices and Human Rights, within which we exceeded the DJSI World average. This encourages us to continue working hard on developing them even further", Honkanen continues.

Companies are selected for the indices based on a comprehensive assessment of long-term economic, environmental and social criteria that account for general as well as industry-specific sustainability trends. Only firms that lead their industries based on this assessment are included in the indices. Of the oil and gas companies, 21 were analyzed this year. Eventually, only five were selected for inclusion in the DJSI World Index.

"According to the DJSI results, Neste still needs to improve the valuation of the overall economic impact of its operations. But even in this area, Neste was ranked as the best of the industry", Honkanen adds. "Our target-driven development will continue also in these areas.
